A camera, a microphone and someone you have never met. It is reasonable to wonder what could go wrong, and the honest answer is: not much, if you bring a few habits with you. Most uncomfortable calls share the same patterns, and once you can spot them, leaving takes about a second. This guide covers those habits, the red flags, and the controls Tchatche puts in front of you.
Is Video Chat With Strangers Safe?
No tool can promise that every person on it behaves well, and a site that does is not being straight with you. What Tchatche can do is give you control: every call is a private room for two, you can skip at any moment, and block and report are always one tap away.
What you do in the call matters as much as the tools. A conversation with a stranger is like one on a long train journey. It can be warm and fun, and it still does not need your address.
Five Habits That Protect You
- Use a first name or a nickname. Your full name is not needed to say hello.
- Check your background. Letters, school lanyards and the view from your window tell people where you are.
- Keep private details private. Address, workplace, school and phone number stay off the call.
- Move slowly on socials. If a conversation is good, it will still be good next week.
- Trust the awkward feeling. You do not owe anyone an explanation for leaving.
The first three are really the idea behind anonymous video chat: you stay in control of what the other person learns about you.
Red Flags Worth Ending a Call Over
These are the patterns that show up again and again. Any one of them is reason enough to skip.
- Asking for money, gift cards, or a payment "just to verify you".
- Pushing you to move to another app straight away.
- Asking for your address, school or workplace in the first minute.
- Sending links and asking you to click or log in.
- Pressuring you to do something you did not offer, or to keep going after you said no.
- Insults, threats, or anything that makes the call feel like a trap.
Plenty of people are friendly and curious. If you want ideas for starting on the right foot, our page on talking to strangers online has some.
The House Rules on Tchatche
These are the short version of our Terms of Service. They apply to everyone on a call.
- Be respectful. No harassment, threats, hate speech or bullying.
- Keep it clean. No sexual content, nudity or pressure of any kind.
- Be yourself. Do not impersonate other people or lie about who you are to gain trust.
- No scams or spam. No requests for money, no off-site payment schemes, no promotion.
- Adults only. Tchatche is not for anyone under 18 or under the minimum age where they live.
- Do not capture or share. Other people's faces and voices are theirs. Do not screenshot or post them.
Breaking these rules can lead to content removal, limits on matching, or a suspended account.
How to Block or Report on Tchatche
On the call screen you have three controls. Skip ends the call and finds a new match. Block makes sure you are not matched with that person again. Report sends the call to the moderation team with the reason you chose.
If someone has crossed a line, use Report first and Block after. That order gives moderators the information they need, and keeps you from seeing the person again.
If Something Goes Wrong
Close the call, then take a breath. Do not reply to follow-up messages from that person and do not send money, whatever the story is. If you shared something you now regret, change the relevant passwords and tell someone you trust.
You can also write to us. The contact page lists the support address and what to include so we can help faster.
Video Chat Safety: Quick Answers
Is video chat with strangers safe?
It can be, and most of that is down to your habits. Share a first name, keep private details out of the call, check what is behind you, and end any call that makes you uncomfortable. Tchatche gives you skip, block and report on every call.
What should I never share on a video chat?
Your home address, workplace or school, phone number, social media handles, banking details and any codes sent to your phone. A good conversation does not need any of them.
How do I report someone on Tchatche?
Use Report on the call screen. Pick the reason and send it, then use Block so you are not matched with that person again. If you need more help, write to the support team using the address on our contact page.
Is Tchatche for everyone?
Tchatche is meant for adults. If you are under 18, or under the minimum age in your country, please do not use it.
